Tea Cosies - the good, the bad & the ugly.

School starts tomorrow Yay!! With a sigh of relief, we're nearly at the end of the long road that has been, the education of our 3 sons. It never ends really, we have further education yet, but with the youngest starting year 12, the end is in sight. We're lucky to have 3 fabulous sons, who were really no trouble at school, except for the minor drama here & there, & of course the constant work to keep them motivated & focused.
It's always good to start the school year, things get back into a routine, you get the house back to yourself, but this year it is with mixed feelings. I have to spare a thought for the littlies who are starting school, after being affected by the floods, maybe some not this week, but soon to keep their lives as normal as possible. I wish I could make all the bad stuff go away for you guys, I wish!
.
Here are some pics of my tea cosies as the title says some are good, bad & ugly!.
EDITED  17/11/2011 Hey - just added some  pics of more tea cosies from the past (my past)

The beehive was one of the first but still a favourite, because the lemon is so fresh & simple.

One which I should have put more flowers on

Then there are the good,
a few I've loved knitting,

Then there's the bad!!!!

I am improving though - I think?

My other cosy pics can be found on my Flickr link

(love to you "A", you'll always be in my fondest memories).

  2. Oh Jenny I don't know what to say. There are four teapot cosies here that I would love to make for various people for various reasons (all good I promise). I also found Fester on Ravelry. Have you considered doing Shaun the Sheep like Fester? Also are any of these patterns available? Do you have a book?

I too live in Brisbane and am a few years older than you. My mum was a prolific knitter (she was blind) and taught all her four daughters when we were young. I haven't knitted for a long time though and am looking to start again with some tea cosies as my children seem to have become tea drinkers (they are all grown).

  3. Thanks Jenni for your lovely comments, I've replied to your pm as well. I think there is a sheep cosy out there somewhere already, have a look on Rav, you may be able to source the pattern from there, happy knitting - Jenny.

  6. G'day! Found you on Ravelry. I'm an Aussie (Sydney) living in Germany. I don't find any ugly at all! And they're finished, unlikely as my 2 I started years ago... I'd love to make the cat one. I crochet and knit for our local pet sanctuary fleamarkets twice a year and in spite of people here in Germany not often buying knitted/crocheted things (sadly, not even my nice doll toilet toppers :-)) I guess that animal items could work for Christmas. Are you at etsy and would you be uploading there? I'd like to buy the pattern and give it a try with one, with your permission.

  7. Hi Heidi, thanks for your comments,I can tell you're an Aussie, making toilet roll dollies lol. There is quite a resergence of them at the moment. I think they are sisters to tea cosies, you can definitely use your imagination with them lol. The cat one isn't out there yet sorry, I will sell some of the patterns in the future unless I get totally frustrated with the whole pattern process (which is possible). In the meantime I'm still practising writing, testing patterns & putting them here on the blog for free. I've just put a little mouse cosy here on the blog. I do have another old cat cosy pattern, which was one of my first, it's not as nice as the sleeping cat & it's been superseded by much nicer cat cosies on the net, but you're welcome to it if you want.
Look in my Rav projects, if you want it let me know, I'll send it to you - Jenny
ps let me know who you are on Rav.

  10. Hi Kyla, welcome to my blog. I did see your original post but I hadn't had time to reply since the weekend. Thanks for your lovely comments about my cosies.
About your ends, when you're sewing up your toy fasten off your ends but leave them rather long at least 20cm, then get a doll needle (they're the really long ones 10cm or longer - you know the ones you'd like to stick into your exhusband's favourite chair sorry I digress lol) and bury your ends deep inside the middle of the toy, bring the needle out & cut off any excess yarn they shouldn't work their way to the surface then. I haven't got the pattern for the Frangipani cosy yet, I love it too because I love the colours, I'll try to include it soon - Jen

  12. Hi Jen, your tea cosies are amazing! We would love to feature one on our tea cosy blog sometime if you would allow it. We would just ask permission to use your pictures, give you a raving review and link back to here.

Is the reindeer cosy your own pattern? We are currently looking for Christmas patterns to link to.

If not I rather link the goat in the well too! :)
